July 20th, 2013 - Jay's new years resolution was to take up fly fishing in 2013. After getting the needed equipment and getting some lesson's from Freddie Lynch he catches his first fly caught redfish.

April 13th, 2013 - Jay and buddy Doug Mowen team up again to do battle in the IFA Redfish series in Port Aransas, TX. They experience New Water in Jay's new Curlew and bring 2 nice redfish to the weigh in for 11 pounds and place 26th out of 84 teams.

August 6th, 2011 - 10 year old Jayden Hakala records his first career Grand Slam! Catching a 21.5" Redfish, 17.5" Trout, 15.5" Flounder AND a 43" Drum all in the same day and all caught on artificial lures!

June 25th, 2011 - Jay Hakala and daughter Mary fish the Cabela's Redfish Series in Rockport, TX. They place 28th out of 68 teams with two fish for 11.73 pounds. The team targeted large schools of redfish, but could only get smaller fish to eat as the larger fish were tired of seeing all the boats.

May 14th, 2011 - Jay Hakala and Freddie Lynch fish the IFA Redfish Tour in Rockport, TX. They weigh in two fish for 15.64 pounds and place 13th out of 52 teams. They had to release a 9 pound fish that was 1/8 of a inch over 28". Had this fish measured they would have won the tournament.

March 25th, 2011 - Jay Hakala and daughter Mary fish the Cabela's Redfish Series in Port Aransas, TX. They place 52th out of 72 teams after coming in 1 fish short of a limit. The team went for the win catching oversize fish hoping to get two to measure. The plan didn't work, but we still had fun.

October 2010 - Jay attains Texas Parks and Wildlife Saltwater Elite Angler Status. He achieved this designation by catching 5 different trophy class fish. Completing this program was fun and easy to do. Here is the list of current Elite Anglers.

August 21st & 22nd 2010 - Jay Hakala and daughter Mary fish the Cabela's Redfish Series Championship in Port Lavaca, TX. They place 7th out of 45 teams with a two day total of 25.38 pounds. Completing their season with this outstanding finish allows them to place 49th of 176 teams in the team of the year race while only fishing half the tournaments.

May 22nd 2010 - Jay Hakala and daughter Mary fish the Cabela's Redfish Series in Corpus Christi, TX. They place 11th out of 81 teams with two fish for 15.64 pounds. Mary schooled her dad catching both fish! Jay's nickname is now "Boat Driver". Feel free to call him that next time you see him.

March 6th 2010 - Jay Hakala and daughter Mary fish the Texas Redfish Series in Port Aransas, TX. They place 35th out of 90 teams with two fish for 9.58 pounds. Mary shows her dad how it's done catching the larger of the two fish.

August 8th 2009 - Jay Hakala and daughter Mary fish the Texas Redfish Series in Port Lavaca, TX. After two days of tough pre-fishing they were able to make it count when it mattered and they put together a 7 pounder and a 4 pounder for 11.34 pounds and finish in the money. They place 18th out of 123 teams and complete the year in 27th place out of over 200 teams in the team of the year standings.

July 11th 2009 - Jay Hakala and daughter Mary fish the Texas Redfish Series in Corpus Christi, TX. They caught a 27 7/8 fish early in the day but spent too much time in that area and this proved to be a mistake as they only caught oversize reds and trout the rest of the day. They place 71st out of 121 teams. They are now in 38th place out of over 170 teams in the team of the year standings.

May 30th 2009 - Jay Hakala and daughter Mary fish the Texas Redfish Series in Freeport, TX. Fishing brand new water proved to be tough for the team, but Mary was able to catch 1 keeper redfish and keep the team from zeroing the event. They place 69th out of 120 teams. They are now in 31st place out of over 150 teams in the team of the year standings.

April 25th 2009 - Jay Hakala and daughter Mary fish the Texas Redfish Series in Rockport, TX. For the first time both fish that were weighed in were caught by Mary! Jay was more than happy to be reduced to boat driver. They had two redfish for 10.33 pounds and place 30th out of 128 teams.

March 25th 2009 - Jay Hakala and daughter Mary fish the Texas Redfish Series in Port Aransas, TX. With a strong norther hitting the morning of the tournament the conditions were difficult, but they were able to catch two redfish for 7.87 pounds and place 39th out of 132 teams.

October 4th 2008 - Jay Hakala and Jake Bolton fish the IFA Redfish Tour in Rockport, TX. They weigh in two fish for 7.27 pounds and place 33rd out of 62 teams.

Sept 6/7 2008 - Jay Hakala and daughter Mary fish the Texas Redfish Series Championship in Kemah, TX. After leading the tourament on day one with 2 redfish weighing at a whopping 15.56 pounds, they come up a little short on day two and have to settle for 3rd. This outstanding finish moves them up to an impressive 21st out of 181 in the final team of the year standings.

August 11th 2008 - Jay Hakala and B. R. Anderson fish the IFA Redfish Tour in Corpus Christi, TX. They weigh in two fish for 12.72 pounds and place 33rd out of 95 teams.

July 19 2008 - Jay Hakala and daughter Mary fish round 4 of the Texas Redfish Series in Rockport, TX. They get out of the boat and wade to tailing redfish and bring in 2 fish for 9.09 pounds. They place 62nd out of 128 teams and move up to 47th of 180 in the team of the year standings.

June 28 2008 - Jay Hakala and daughter Mary fish round 3 of the Texas Redfish Series in Port Lavaca, TX. They put their new CastAway Skeleton rods to good use weighing in 25" and 27" redfish that tipped the scales at 12.48 pounds. They place 28th out of 122 teams and move up to 51st of 169 in the team of the year standings.

May 2008 - Jay Hakala and daughter Mary fish round 2 of the Texas Redfish Series in Matagorda, TX. They make a long run 50 miles south to find the right fish, but due to extreme weather change are unable to make it back by boat and join 35 other teams in weighing no fish.

April 19 2008 -Jay and Mary take time out of their busy tourament fishing schedule to host girls fishing day for Mary's Girl Scout troop. The event was a big success with all the girls catching fish. Click here to see the photos.

April 12/13 2008 -Jay Hakala and daughter Mary fish the 53rd annual Texas State Bass Tournament at Sam Rayburn Reservoir. The team made the long drive to defend their title on a lake they have never fished but in the end came up short and placed 2nd.

April 2008 - Jay Hakala and daughter Mary fish round 1 of the Texas Redfish Series in Corpus Christi, TX. They weigh in two fish for 8.47 pounds and narrowly miss the cut to fish on day two. They finished 64th out of 128 teams.
